LIFE OF A CARpet

Shag CARpet was new
Color matching the decor
Gave warmth to the house
Bare feet kept warm
Taken for granted
Stepped on
Wiped on
Walked on
Dirt falling through rug
Became dirty
Shampooed
Years go by
Continued to maintain
Working from home
Repeat performance
Not useful, warn out
Discarded, like floating
On an iceberg
Relationships stagnant
Busy, no time
Out lived serviceably
Became a door mat
Welcoming, wiping feet on
Like living in a nursing home

VOLKSWAGON BEETLE

Volkswagen Beetle
With life of its own
Mind of its own
Created long before
Its time
Nineteen sixty-three
Original idea
First car
Never took a driving
Test
Had no accidents
Self-driven
All electric
Handles steering
Acceleration, breaking
Regulates speed
Changes lanes
Assisted elderly
Woman
In protecting her home
From corrupt
Developers
Cleverness and loyalty
His name was
Herbie

LANGUAGE OF ITS ONE
Cars honks
Birds tweets
Lions roars
Racoons growl
Clocks coo coo
Chairs squeaks
Trains whistles
Roosters crows
Lightning strikes
Thunder claps
Winds howl
High heels tap
Dogs barks
Cats meows
Owls hoot
Language of their own
Words without really speaking
Meanings of their own
But we understand
