It was my home away from home
taking me to workshops conferences
powwows and family gatherings
It was my office on wheels
carrying all my gear for work
always there for me anywhere I chose to go
It was my home away from home
a place to sleep read and make food
no hotel or restaurant required
It was my wheels on every road
taking me from coast to coast
across mountains and rivers
It was my living map to explore
driving through forests and deserts
enduring searing sun and torrential rains
It was faithful and unfailing in duty
thousands upon endless thousands of miles
always bringing me home again
Until one day it was double ended
protecting me from even a scratch
by absorbing the entire impact front and back
A miracle to the very last breath
insurance paid back every penny invested
as a downpayment on my dream car
Thus it birthed my Chevrolet Volt
taking me from coast to coast
to discover new roads on my way home
